Problem this solves

Markings can be partial or unclear. This guide helps you interpret size notation and lip type so you can quote accurately.

How to interpret markings

  1. 1Photograph both faces of the seal, including any stamps.
  2. 2Look for ID × OD × width notation (usually in mm).
  3. 3Translate the numbers into oil seal dimensions: ID × OD × width.
  4. 4Identify lip type codes such as SC or TC.
  5. 5Note material hints if present (NBR, FKM/Viton, PTFE).
  6. 6Confirm direction of rotation if marked.

Common oil seal dimension format

If markings show three numbers like 25 47 7, read them as ID 25 mm × OD 47 mm × width 7 mm.
