Problem this solves

Drive pulleys transfer torque; idler pulleys route or tension the belt. Confusing the two can lead to incorrect bearings, wrong surface profile, or poor belt tracking.

Idler pulleys often fail because the duty is described too generally

Routing, wrap angle, and bearing arrangement matter as much as OD. A simple “idler pulley needed” request usually lacks enough detail for accurate replacement.
